Political Science

The Department of Political Science started since the inception of the college and developed steadily with Sri Sachindranath Bhattacharya and Sri Kamalendu Ganguly as the first two lecturers. The Department progressed over time and the subject was then offered as a general course of study. Honours in Political Science was introduced in the year 2001. Smt. Mousoomi Nandi and Dr. Raj Kumar Kothari nurtured the Department successfully with its newly introduced Honours course and the Department gradually grew from strength to strength. The present faculty includes Smt. Mousoomi Nandi and Dr. Manidipa Mistri. Besides the usual class lectures, seminars project work and group discussions are also held which benefit the students immensely. Student-friendly atmosphere and a good teacher-student relationship are the hallmarks of the Department. Program outcomes
P.O. I: The purpose of the program is to guide the students and researchers to analyze the ideas of rights, justice and freedom.
P.O. II: The program gives the students an insight into the different governmental processes in India and assists them in a better understanding of Indian politics.
P.O. III: The program helps to understand how the political and social institutions operate. P.O.IV: It helps the students to build their political and social awareness, ethics and morality. P.O.V: It inculcates political and social values. Program specific outcomes
P.S.O. I: It has a specific aim to benefit the students by giving them an insight into different social structure and approaches.
P.S.O. II: To understand different perspectives on political and administrative matters.
P.S.O.III: Discuss the co-relation between political and social structure.
P.S.O.IV: Compare various constitutional systems of the world.
P.S.O.V: Students have career opportunities in various research institutions and academia.



Infrastructure
The central library of the college has a sufficient number of books on Political Sceince and International Relations for reference of the students. There is a departmental book bank which lends out books to extremely needy students for the whole year. There is a laptop, s creen and projector at disposal to enrich the classes audio-visually. Audio-visually equipped classrooms are shared in common.
