The Department started functioning from the very first academic session (with effect
from 14th July, 1965) of the college. About 450 students in the Pre University (commerce) and B.Com. Pass levels
of the Calcutta University were enrolled for study in the first academic session. Initially, the Department had
two sections - Day and Evening. The evening section has been closed from the academic session 2000-2001. From the
year 1985 the Department has received affiliation for teaching B.Com. Honours in Accounting and Finance of the
Calcutta University. Currently both B.Com Honors and B.Com. General in Accounting and Finance courses of the
Calcutta University are offered for study.
Program outcomes:B.Com (H &G) courses as designed under the CBCS system by the University of Calcutta
under the procedure as framed by the UGC to help the students of commerce who are pursuing undergraduate degree
with the specialization of accounting and finance, to learn and acquire knowledge and skills for the purpose
of employment in various fields of business and services.
Program specific outcomes:The course of B.Com H & G shall substantially be benefiting the students in
the purpose of employment specifically in the field of finance. The students of honours are being entrusted to
study some special papers like Indian Financial System in semester III which comes under the core course in
the honours group. The basic utility of IFS is to impart among the students the learning methodologies of
Indian Stock Market. The subject provides an opportunity to the students to learn the capital and money market
providing an opportunity for making them eligible for the job market. The students of honours are being
allotted with the subject of project work in semester VI which helps them to be conversant with the research
learning facilities.

Several invited lectures on the field of Tourism, Environment Pollution, and Entrepreneurship etc. by the eminent teachers & professionals of different universities & Organizations.

UGC funded Career Oriented programs (C.O.Ps) started on Tax Practice and Procedures. computerized accounting.
