Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri College
Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri College was founded in July 1965 (though inception of the
college was in 1964) by Ranadev Chaudhuri, an eminent Barrister, in memory of his father
Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri, son-in-law of Rashtraguru Surendranath Banerjee, to foster
higher education among the poorer strata of society. Subsequently, it got affiliated to
University of Calcutta. Popular belief holds that the building was originally built as a
residence for the exile of the two descendants of Tipu Sultan: Prince Anwar Shah and Golam
Mohammad Shah. The architecture bears testimony to this fact. Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri
College is a grants–in–aid college of the Government of West Bengal. The Principal and
Teachers are appointed by the recommendation of West Bengal College Service Commission
